Who We Are
Our Story
Our story began in the fall of 2001 in the Laverman home near Tama Plaza station (Yokohama, Japan), with a half dozen Christians in attendance.
The believers had a shared background: they had recently returned from
time in America where their Christian faith had begun or grown. This group had a desire to start a new church family. We formally organized as a church in
April 2002, taking on the name "Grace Chapel." Our first baptisms were in the fall of 2002. In 2003, we moved weekly worship services to a more central location near Mizonokuchi station. "Denen" was added to our church name to recognize our location on the Denentoshi line.
Since our beginning, our church has been a part of the Conservative Baptist Association in Japan, a fellowship of 80 churches begun in 1947.

God has blessed our small church with its growth and vision.
In 2019, we built the Grace House (a mini church building) in Mizonokuchi (Takatsu Ward, Kawasaki City) and began using it for church meetings as well as for outreach to the local community.
Starting in 2020, we began holding worship services in Azamino at the Mitchell Missionary Home (Aoba-ku, Yokohama) near Eda Station.
We also built a mini church (Kosugi Joy House) in the rapidly growing Musashi-Kosugi (Nakahara-ku, Kawasaki), and started a new pioneering mission with Missionary Laverman at the center.
In July 2022, at the general meeting of the church, the church name was changed to "Denen Grace Church." The original "Denen Grace Chapel" will become "Mizonokuchi Chapel," and the pioneer offices in Azamino and Musashi-Kosugi will become "Azamino Chapel" and "Kosugi Chapel," and we will cooperate as three chapels.
From 2025, the venue for Worship services of “Mizonokuchi Chapel” has been moved from the basement meeting room of the Iwasaki Building to Grace House. And we are working to become a church more rooted in the local community.
The hope of Denen Grace Church is for many people in Kawasaki and Yokohama to receive God's great blessing through the work of the church, and for them to worship, pray, and support one another together as God's family, fulfilling the church's mission and serving God.
